Meet the Team

Jemma Lekkas

  • Owner

  • Principal Physiotherapist

  • Musculoskeletal & Clinical Pilates Specialist

With over 16 years of experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and clinical Pilates, Jemma brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, and a unique athlete’s perspective to her practice. A former elite 400m gold medalist, her journey into physiotherapy was inspired by her own athletic career, and she continues to collaborate with sporting bodies to inform her evidence-based approach.

Expertise & Approach

Jemma specializes in:

Musculoskeletal & Sports Physiotherapy (acute/chronic pain, sports injuries, growth-related issues)

Clinical Pilates (certified since 2017; pursuing advanced DMA certification in 2025)

Dry Needling (for radiculopathy, autonomic nervous system regulation, and pain management)

Chronic Conditions (Fibromyalgia, hypermobility, pelvic health including endometriosis/adenomyosis)

Dance Physiotherapy (pre-pointe assessments, injury prevention for dancers)

Her treatment philosophy centers on the Movement Based Classification and Treatment (MBCT) model, combining hands-on therapy, active rehabilitation, and patient education to empower clients toward long-term recovery.

Career Journey

After beginning her career in hospitals, Jemma transitioned to private practice in 2012, later owning a successful clinic in the Blue Mountains for 6 years. A move to Canberra in 2023 saw her pioneer a Clinical Pilates program at a women’s health clinic before joining Queanbeyan Physiotherapy Clinic. A brief hiatus due to her own health journey (adenomyosis and recovery from a 2025 hysterectomy) reinforced her resilience and deep empathy for patients navigating chronic conditions. Now fully recovered, she’s eager to return to helping others regain strength and independence.

Beyond the Clinic

When not treating patients, Jemma recharges by:

• Gardening (her "happy place" indoors and out)

• Mountain biking with her family

• Knitting, sewing, and baking Greek/German family recipes

• Playing fetch with her two mischievous Blue Cattle Dogs, Jasper and Mackenzie

Why She Loves being a Physio

"My goal is simple: to help clients return to their lives—happier, stronger, and more confident. I believe in active listening, collaborative care, and tailoring every treatment to the individual. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone reclaim their movement and joy."
